Tamiya is proud to welcome yet another legendary touring car to its ever-expanding lineup – the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II (1991), now available on our versatile and beginner-friendly TT-02 chassis.

This iconic machine made its mark on the 1991 season of the German Touring Car Championship (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft – DTM), where it raced against some of the fiercest competition in European motorsport.

Based on the compact and stylish Mercedes-Benz 190 E sedan, the EVO II was a purpose-built homologation special designed with racing in mind. It featured dramatic aerodynamic enhancements, including pronounced overfenders, an aggressive front spoiler, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a massive rear wing – all of which contributed to improved downforce and stability at high speeds.

Beneath the hood, the car was powered by a high-revving 2.5-liter inline-4 DOHC engine, delivering an impressive 340 horsepower. This engine, combined with race-tuned suspension and lightweight construction, made the 190 E EVO II a formidable force on the track.

In the 1991 DTM season, the factory-backed car – sponsored by the well-known German beer brand König Pilsener – consistently performed at the top level. It ultimately secured second place in the Drivers’ Championship and played a crucial role in earning the coveted Manufacturers’ Championship for Mercedes-Benz that year.

The long-nose, short-deck body of this model exudes a dynamic sense of speed and has been faithfully reproduced in high-quality polycarbonate.	The front grille and the iconic three-pointed star emblem at the tip of the hood are provided as separate plated parts, adding realism and a sharp, well-defined character to the front end.	Aerodynamically shaped door mirrors are crafted from durable resin and feature a realistic two-part construction, with mirrored surfaces plated for added authenticity.
The uniquely designed taillights, which wrap around the sides with a distinctive elongated and uneven profile, as well as the detailed muffler ends, are represented with precision using decals.	A massive resin rear wing with spoiler-shaped wingtips completes the sporty look. The wing is designed as a two-part assembly, with the base supplied as a separate component for easier installation and enhanced realism.	Silver-colored dish-style wheels feature a multi-hole design, perfectly matched with racing-style slick tires for that authentic motorsport appearance.

Gearbox cover can be removed simply with the loosening of screws on the frame.	Molded 4-bevel differential gears ensure that the model offers smooth drive and cornering.	Resin ball links in the steering linkage joints make for smooth, comfortable motion.
Wheel hubs are designed to look like brake discs for a realistic and stylish appearance.	4-wheel double wishbone suspension utilizes friction dampers for a controllable ride.	Motor cover includes removable cooling duct (not attached in above image).
