Thanks to the four General Electric J-79 turbojet with afterburner engines, installed in pylons under the wings, the B-58 was able to reach the max speed of Mach 2,0. It entered in service in the early 60s as a strategic bomber but, quite soon, it was also used as low-level-penetration attack aircraft.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt was equipped, for the time, with a sophisticated electronic flight system and an advanced attack \/ navigation radar.
