Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation fighter developed under the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, successfully providing extremely low observability, network connectivity and exemplary situational awareness.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDeveloped to take over from Navy F\/A-18s, the F-35C is designed for use with CATOBAR (catapult assisted takeoff but arrested recovery) systems. Larger wings and horizontal stabilizers than other F-35 variants help it with slower landings on carriers, while its wingtips fold ninety degrees upward to allow for more room on deck. The F-35C has a rear arresting hook which catches the arresting cables on the flight deck, slowing it and allowing a landing in the limited space.
